We are so pleased to share this wonderful video, created by artist Matt Sackett, that documents a school beautification project made possible by the Joe & Marion Wesley Foundation.
Through Joe and Marion’s generous sponsorship, not only were we supplied with school hats and backpacks, educational materials, and art supplies for the children and teachers at 3 Mariposas Montessori (3MM), but we also participated in two cross cultural art installations.
Matt’s vision and creation of “Las Tres Mariposas” mural on our front gate makes the vibrancy and beauty of what takes place within our school visible for all the residents of La Cienega, the barrio which we serve. The simple, yet boldly colored design, exemplifies our simple beginnings and the lovely metamorphosis our school has undergone since its inception nearly 10 years ago.
What began as a tiny school for a handful of children has blossomed into three bustling classrooms with over 45 students (ages 1-11), 4 trained Montessori Guides, 13 support staff members, vegetable gardens, a library, a chicken coop, 2 dogs, 6 cats and enough love, dedication and inspiration for a community twice our size!
The “Kaleidoscope of Butterflies” installation in the front office is a stunning visual portrayal of the wings of flight education has brought to our students and their families.
Matt’s comment about “art lifting our spirits”in the video is such an accurate statement. Each day, passing through the vivid front gate, entering the school grounds and entering the building by way of the “butterflies” we are reminded of our vision of making our tiny corner of the world a more peaceful, tolerant, and kinder place through education and community building.
We are so grateful for the Wesley’s and the Sackett family. We hope that the welcome and support you received from our community warmed your hearts as much as it did ours.
Not a day goes by that we don’t pause for a moment to thank all of you for your contributions to the school that just might change the world!
